Reflection on Mission and Numbers 8:15-23

There is a rhythm to our wandering.

You might think me mad to suggest such a thing.

On a glance, the rhythm is difficult to see.

You have to journey with us awhile.

On the journey, you will see, why we stay and why we leave.

We have a home.

Again, you might think me mad

for suggesting that wanderers like us have a home.

We make our homes and then leave.

On a glance, that is what you might see.

You have to journey with us awhile.

On the journey, you will understand what home means to us.

You speak of place as if it is land, fixed, changed only over time.

We experience place as a being, a connectedness to someone greater than me or you,

A feeling of belonging and love.

A place is not our home. The tents only protect us from the weather.

God is the reason we wander, and God is the reason we stay.

Because God is our home.

  1. We are but sojourners. Passing through a land not our home to a land and a home far better but, on the way let us tell all we meet about the path.
