“Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus.” (John 21:4 NIV)
Jesus stood on the shore
Children play in the water
Catching ball,
Fishing with pole nets,
Swimming like fish
Creating castles from sand
Jesus stood on the shore
Amidst sun worshippers
The topless tanned
The fully clothed pale
The well-protected babies
cradled in tattooed arms
Jesus stood on the shore
Heaven and earth ‘mash up’
Multilingual conversations
Universally spoken laughter
Rain-like wave of the palm trees
And the roll of the tumbling water
Jesus stood on the shore
The waves kiss his ankles
Atlantic meets Logos
The Living Word of God
The hem of his robe
Soaked in salty water
Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realise that it was Jesus.
Been reading revelation for the last few weeks mate as part of a study, reading this morning Revelation 14 and how many will not recognise Jesus, it is so sad that people will not just, not recognise Him but will refuse to recognise Him.
I hear what you are saying, and that is a real concern. (I found the book ‘Revelation Road’ by Nick Page a helpful resource in my studies of Revelation.) With all the joy and life, I was surprised by the touch of sadness in this piece I wrote. Having said that, the good news is that the disciples eventually recognize Jesus in their encounter with this ‘stranger’ at the beach. After all, it’s Jesus on the shore, so maybe there is hope yet?
Very thought provoking. How many times have we not recognised Jesus, standing beside us and him wanting to be with us….
